We spent three weeks driving from Los Angeles. The first days we explored LA itself, then on to Las Vegas, across to the north rim of Grand Canyon and Zion Park. A couple of nights in Flagstaff including a visit to the huge Meteor Crater. Then a long drive north to Kings Canyon with its giant Redwoods, three days in San Francisco (not nearly enough), and finally back down via Highway 1 with various detours. Total distance: approx. 5,000 km.

We visited Grand Canyon from the north rim — not the south rim that 98% of tourists use. We had the entire view to ourselves from before sunrise for several hours.
